3. Triggering ovulation

Administering GnRH –agonisten (see medicaments) prevents spontaneous ovulation and loss of egg cells. To prepare for the egg cell retrieval for In Vitro Fertilization, the ovulation is triggered by hCG-Injection (instead of natural LH) as long as corresponding values are achieved in hormonal and ultrasonic examinations. About 40 hours later spontaneous ovulation would occur, which means that the egg cells would be lost for the further treatment. That is why we retrieve the egg cells form the follicle about 36 hours later (by puncture).
