Gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT)

gametentransfer

Egg cells retrieved by puncture after an ovarian stimulation and sperm cells are placed into a fallopian tube. At this point, they are separated from each other. The actual fertilization takes place in the fallopian tube. Carrying out intrafallopian transfer is reasonable only in the case of disorder of egg cell interception by the fallopian tube. A big amount of fallopian tube pregnancies that occur after this method is a problem; that is why this method is hardly used any more.

The GIFT method is not offered in the Mainz fertility centre.
